Abstract

This article summarizes the most important ideas developed by the Peruvian Constitutional Court based on the rulings issued on the interposed claims that had as a pretension the protection of the fundamental right to religious freedom.
According to the Constitution of 1993, the Constitutional Court has the role of supreme interpreter, as well as the control of the constitutionality of the norms. That is why its rulings contain criteria that inspire the entire legal system, in what corresponds to the application of laws.As a result of some ten lawsuits, among constitutional cases of habeas corpus, amparo and habeas data, the Constitutional Court has set forth favorable criteria for religious freedom, related to religious assistance in the prison area, treatment in admission evaluations Universities, freedom of worship and the use of religious symbols in public activities, among others
